About Us

The NTA is a nonprofit organization that was founded in 1980 to promote Country Western dancing, establish communication among dance teachers, develop standardized terminology and school figures, and develop and maintain high standards for teachers to more effectively instruct others in the art and practice of dancing.

The National Teachers' Association for Line and Social Dancing (NTA) is a nonprofit, international dance education organization intent on improving the quality of dance and dance instruction. It is made up of volunteers who support and promote dance education and social dance. The NTA provides workshops and publications focusing on standard dance terminology and up-to-date technique and styling. Recognizing the influence of many dance forms. NTA maintains a solid foundation of core knowledge as dance evolves.  Our 501(c)(3) is registered with the IRS under Federal EIN: 68-0099393.

NTA is governed by its Articles of Incorporation, Bylaws, and policies adopted in accordance with those governing documents. The Board of Directors provides overall governance, strategic direction, financial oversight, and long-term stewardship, while the Executive Committee manages the ordinary and day-to-day affairs of the organization. The Board includes NTA’s Executive Committee officers, international Directors of Events, Dance Committee members, and Zone Directors. Regional Directors support NTA’s geographic leadership and local connection within their assigned areas.

The entire membership is encouraged to attend the annual meeting being held in 2027 at the Ft. Wayne Dance for All. Local and regional meetings are held periodically by Regional and Zone Directors. These meetings are often held in conjunction with other dance events.

The members receive a quarterly newsletter and all USA members can get discounts on ASCAP, BMI, and SESAC music licenses (other countries have their own music license companies). The Newsletter is available online to members.

Membership Cards are issued at the time of joining and after each renewal. There are NO joint memberships - each membership is for 1 person. A membership runs from month/year of processing for the number of years applied for, to the same month. The Expiration Date (month/year) is indicated on the Membership Card. Please use your membership number on all correspondence with the NTA Business Office. Memberships are given to individuals over 21 years of age. Junior memberships available for those 10 through under 21.
